About Us
Welcome to Kericho High School
The school started on 15th June 1959 as one of the D.E.B. pioneered schools. It could not open in January 1959 due to lack of facilities. The school started with 11 boys and two teachers; Mr. John Bowles, the first Head teacher and Mr. Wesley Rono the first African teacher in the school.
Over 58 years since inception, tremendous changes have taken place in the school. It remained a single stream in the sixties and two stream in the seventies. ‘A’ levels started in 1972. The student population has grown from 11 in 1959, 120 in the sixties 400 in the seventies and currently stands at 1870. The school draws 60% of its students from Kericho County, 40% from other counties. Our struggle to excel has been embodied in the undying spirit nurtured by the founders and others who joined later as reflected by their contributions and unwavering support.
The teaching and learning experiences are supported by a team of 76 teachers; 65 of whom are employed by the Teachers Service Commission and the rest employed by the Board of Management. The teachers’ efforts are complimented by 24 essential staff who have are instrumental in ensuring that a conducive environment is created for the boys’. The school is managed by the constituted Board of Management as per the Basic Education Act and supported by the school principal, Parents’ Association, heads of departments and the student council.
